Some news on a Sunday

The NL East leading New York mets bolstered their bullpen on Sunday, as they acquired reliever Luis Ayala from the Washington Nationals in exchange for minor league shortstop Anderson Hernandez.

New York had expressed interest in Ayala at the trade deadline, but was unable to complete a deal at that time.

In other Mets news, closer Billy Wagner apparently suffered a setback with his injured left arm and will be sidelined longer than first thought.

The Mets enter action on Sunday with a two-game lead on the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East.

Elsewhere around the league, Detroit placed closer Todd Jones back on the 15-day DL, just two days after returning from a stint on the shelf.
