Schilling announces retirement

Right-hander Curt Schilling announced his retirement this morning, via his personal blog 38pitches.com.

Schilling, who was sidelined all of last season following shoulder surgery, hasn't pitched since going 9-8 with a 3.87 ERA in 24 starts for the Boston Red Sox in 2007. He ends his career 216-146 with a 3.46 ERA and 3,116 strikeouts over 20 years with the Baltimore Orioles, Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies, Arizona Diamondbacks and Red Sox.

The 42-year-old hurler, though, won three World Series titles and was 11-2 all-time in the playoffs with a 2.83 ERA.
